Awangbow inspects LII pump house

Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management minister Awangbow Newmai on Friday inspected the Pump House No2 of Loktak Lift Irrigation (LLI) along with WRD chief engineer G Robindro Sharma and other officials concerned.
Minister Awangbow informed that the restoration of Pump House No 2 will supply water to Imphal High Level Canal having a length of 29 km from Tera Urak Keinou to Patsoi area which will then discharge into Nambul River.
The revival of the state's major water irrigation project is one way of pushing the agricultural lands for self-sufficiency in food grain production post COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, he asserted.
It may be mentioned that Loktak Lift Irrigation Project (LLIP), located in Bishnupur district, has been designed to pump water from Loktak Lake at three points (Pump House no 1, 2 and 3) discharging water through five canals to cater to a Cultivable Command Area (CCA) of 23,400 Hectares and an Annual Irrigation Potential (AIP) of 40,000 Ha.
It was commissioned in the year 1986.Due to decline in the performance of the project, the ERM of LLIP was proposed for restoration of lost AIP of 17400 Ha (CCA 12600 Ha) in Phase-I .
