Imphal, April 20 2023:
Under the aegis of Ministry of law & justice, Department of justice; Department of Psychiatry, JNIMS organised a one-day 'training and sensitisation of school students against child sexual abuse' at UNACCO School, Khongman on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, department of psychiatry head professor Koijam Shantibala observed that the main reason behind instances of child sexual abuse is lack of sex education among the school students.
At the same time, parents of victim children often hide such crimes to avoid social stigma and on the other hand, some resolve the crime after receiving compensation through customary laws and practices.
However, the main objective of the ministry of law and justice is to delivery proper justice to the victim.
In order to achieve this objective, there is the strong need to create understanding and awareness among the stakeholders including CSOs, teachers and parents/guardians, she said.
JNIMS Department of Psychiatry, project Consultant Dr Nelson Loitongbam, liaison officer & medical social worker Hingba Joyson and project co-ordinator Grace Khaute were also present at the event.
