Capacity building programme on JJ Act begins

Imphal, April 20 2023:
A two-day capacity building programme on "Minimum standard of care and protection under Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, 2015 and its amendment Act, 2021" for staff of child care institutions, which is being organised by District Child Protection Unit, Imphal West, Social Welfare Department, commenced at the auditorium of Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong, on Thursday.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural function, Social Welfare joint director Bantee Singh Konthoujam informed that in addition to providing nutritious diets to the orphans, child care institutions need to make them mentally strong and guide them to succeed in every held.
The staff of child care institutions also have to acquire basic skills and knowledge on how to deal and handle children with love and care, he said, while expressing confidence that staff members of child care institutions will benefit from the programme and contribute their best in developing a child to his/ her limit.
Bantee Singh also stated that the ideals of uniform opportunities will serve no purpose if the orphaned children are discriminated upon.
Therefore, there is the need to provide these children their basic rights from every section of the society, he added.
Presided over by DCPU Imphal West District Child Protection officer, Yurembam Indramani, the inaugural function was also attended by Social Welfare deputy director (WP) Binobala Nongmeikapam as guest of honour.
During the technical session, DCPU Imphal West protection officer (in-charge) M Sarda Devi, DCPU Imphal West legal-cum-probation officer Khaidem Premjit Singh and SARA program manager Gyanilaxmi Thongam spoke as resource persons.
