Storm leaves a trail of destruction

Imphal, April 20 2023:
A violent storm that swept across Manipur valley last night left a trail of destruction.
However, there is no report of any human casualty.
Around 30 houses were either blown away or damaged by the windstorm at Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chaprou in Imphal West district.
A number of houses were also damaged at Awang Potsangbam.
The windstorm either destroyed or damaged many houses and other structures at Kyamgei, Lilong Arapti and Khanarok in Imphal East district.
Similar trail of destruction was also reported from Sanjenlok and Morok Ingkhol of Khundrakpam AC.
Uprooted trees, broken branches, snapped power lines, fallen electric poles and roofs (GI sheets) blown away and hanging by tree branches could be seen at different places.

Power supply was cut off for the whole night in many parts of Manipur following the windstorm.
The wild winds also blew away most of the roofs of the residents residing in the villages of Morokingkhol and Senjam in Konthoujam Assembly Constituency.
One Bino Devi of the Morokingkhol whose housetop had been flown away in the storm early on Thursday sought the cooperation of the State Government for reconstruction at the earliest.
At Saprou village in the same district, electric poles and several houses have been badly destroyed in the strong wind.
The strong wind came after the State experienced its hottest day of this season.
Manipur's two districts�Tengnoupal bordering Myanmar on the south and Noney bordering Assam on the east experienced the hottest day of the season with 39.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
In the valley districts, Imphal West recorded 31 degrees Celsius and Imphal West recorded 35 degrees Celsius on the same day.
Ironically, Pherzawl district bordering Assam and Mizoram on the east experienced 25-degree Celsius on Thursday, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) .
