The illegal immigrants were shifted from Sadbhavna Mandap here to the barrack type Shelter Home at Singhat police station on April 18 .
When this correspondent visited the Shelter Home on Thursday, the refugees were found to be taken care of well and their needs including food and medicines provided by Churachandpur district administration.
As majority of the refugees are weavers, the district administration is also making arrangement for them to resume weaving activities so that they could earn their own income for self-sustenance.
According to Churachandpur DC Sharath Chandra, the district administration is planning to arrange looms and other equipment for the refugees as most of them were engaged in weaving activities at the time of their arrest.
Providing education to children of the refugees is also on the agenda and the district administration is communicating with ZEO and other officials to get approval for the same, he said.
The DC told this correspondent that government has come forward with a humanitarian touch and took the decision to keep refugees from Myanmar in Shelter Homes instead of being detained in view of the restive situation in the neighbour ing country.
Accordingly, the state cabinet decided to constitute a sub-commit tee with three ministers as members to look after the Myanmarese refugees and keep them at Shelter Homes.
The district administration has been tasked to identify suitable location for Shelter Homes preferably not in the town area to prevent assimilation and not in the border areas to prevent them from escaping to their country.
Accordingly, a Shelter Home was constructed inside Singhat police station and all the refugees have been sheltered at the home from April 18, Sharath Chandra added.
