Imphal, June 08 2023:
Under the banner of 'No separate administration in Manipur', All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) organised protest demonstration cum public discussion in different parts of the state on Thursday.
According to a statement of AMUCO, the demonstra-tion cum public discussion were held at Sagoltongba (Lansoibi Keithel), Oinam bazar, Naorem Leikai Lai Sumang, Kakwa bazar, Kakwa Laiphrakpam Leikai, Chingamakha Model Club and Hiyangthang.
AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang, vice pres-ident Koijam Helen, secre-tary general Dr Norendro Thokchom, AMUCO advi-sors Ito Tongbram and Dr Y Mani Khuman, COHR chairman Phulindro Kons-am, AMAWOVA president Y Kunjarani, advisor Ch Ush-arani, YOFFS president Hi-jam Meghachandra, AMES-CO president Loitongbam Ibotombi and NRC president Thongam Ajit were main speakers at the discussion.
According to the state-ment, AMUCO along with like-minded civil society organisations have been opposing all attempts to distort territorial integrity of Manipur.
Accordingly, these organisations along with the people need to fight steadfastly against pressure being exerted on the government of India by Kuki militants, Kuki CSOs and Kuki political leaders to have a separate admin-istration in Manipur.
Though many believe that the violence that broke out on May 3 is a conflict be-tween two communities it is clear that the clash is fallout of war waged by drug cartels from Myanmar, the AMUCO said and stressed the need for uprooting drug cartel from Manipur com-pletely.
The hidden agenda of the drug cartel to have separate administration through the Kuki militants and prominent personalities is to continue with poppy plantation.
With the be-lief that state forces could not destroy poppy plants if there is law and order problem, Kuki militants are repeatedly attacking Meetei villages in the peripheral valley areas and not giving any chance to bring peace in the state, AMUCO said adding that Kukis are still ignoring peaceful gestures from different sections of people.
