Chief secretary holds meeting, visits relief camps

Chief secretary Vineet Joshi on Thursday convened a meeting of all the adminis-trative secretaries and head of departments at Manipur Secretariat Conference Hall to oversee the functioning of government departments and streamline governance in the aftermath of the May 3 riots.
The meeting discussed is-sues relating to proper func-tioning of educational insti-tutions, healthcare service, water and sanitation, judicial service and re-establishment of offices destroyed in the re-cent riots on top priority.
The administrative secretaries and head of departments sug-gested measures for stream-lining the functioning of all the government departments including district units.
Commencement of on-line classes for schools and colleges was also discussed.
Provision of games and sports equipment in all the relief camps especially for the displaced young children who are currently sheltered in various relief camps was suggested in the meeting.
On the other hand, the chief secretary inspected the relief camps opened in Imphal East and Imphal West districts for displaced persons on Thursday to take stock of the requirements being faced by the inmates.
The chief secretary's visit covered relief camps opened at Heingang Makha Leikai community hall in Imphal East district, one residential school at Lamboi Khong-nangkhong and Recent Higher Secondary School, Sagoltong-ba in Imphal West district and monitored the requirements of displaced persons such as food, water, medicine and other essential items.
Joshi also interacted with the displaced persons in the relief camps in order to find out the problems and incon-veniences they are facing and assured of all assistance from the state government at the earliest.
He also inspected the on-going preparation of relief camp exclusively for ladies at Manipur Trade & Expo Centre, Lamboi Khong-nangkhong and instructed officials concerned to expe-dite completion of the relief camp for early functioning.
The visit of chief secretary was accompanied by deputy commissioners, administra-tive secretaries of Education Department, Health & Fam-ily Welfare, MAHUD, PHED, DIPR, Home, chief medical officers, etc.
