Imphal, June 08 2023:
While asking the leg-islators and those in the gov-ernment to stop dancing to the tune of New Delhi, six students' bodies including MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK, AIMS and another appealed to convene a special assembly session and adopt a joint resolution for protection of lives of civilians and for the future of Manipur.
In a release, the student bod-ies stated that even though it was earlier pointed out that peace would be possible in the state until the SoO agreement with kuki militants is with-drawn and Kuki terrorists con-trolled, the centre and the state are hesitant to take appropriate action against the Kuki mili-tants in-spite of well aware about their direct involvement in the conflict in clear violation of the So0 ground rules.
If the government authorities are un-willing to withdraw from the So0 agreement, then due pro-cess should be made to remove Sot) designated camps from Manipur, or else people will not live peacefully, it added.
Attacking the civilians by heavily armed Chin-Kuki ter-rorist infiltrating from Myan-mar is a foreign aggression and central government should look the matter seriously, the release maintained, while pointing out that the gov-ernment seemed to neglect the issue and as such the con-flict could not be resolved.
In view of the present situation, the elected representatives of Manipur should adopt joint resolution by making it public and take up appropriate initia-tives for protecting the lives of the people.
Instances of MLAs clam-ouring for power and post are some reasons for the cen-tre undermining interest of the state and its people, the bodies expressed and advised the elected people's repre-sentatives to join hands and take actions for protecting the people of Manipur.
