Search Ops conducted in IW, Kangpokpi, Chandel districts

Imphal, June 08 2023:
Combined teams of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under IGAR (S) and Manipur police conducted search operations in Keithelmanbi area under Patsoi police station of Imphal West district and Haibung and Lhongchin under New Keithelmanbi police station in Kangpokpi district on Thursday.
Security forces have been conducting op-erations in the adjoining areas of Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts since Wednesday, including at Sangaithel and Khoken villages.
Preparations for the operation began from 7.30 am Thursday and the teams, sub-divided into two and assisted by Patsoi PS and New Keithelmanbi PS respectively, began the operation around 9.30 am.
In the operation at Haibung and Lhongchin, suspected houses were searched one-by-one and any suspicious items examined in detail.
Sniffer dogs were also used in the search.

After the search concluded, police pickets of the security forces were also repaired.
Haibung village chief Hemin Kipgen, mean-while, commended the activities of security forces to prevent unwanted incidents and also urged the government to help restore peace in the state as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, houses were searched one-by-one during the operation conducted at Keithelmanbi.
There is no report of arrest or seizure made during the search operation that continued till around 1.30pm in the presence of a dis-trict magistrate.
It may be mentioned that based on proposal by Army authorities regarding the requirement of executive magistrates in the five valley dis-tricts and Kangpokpi for conduct of combing operations, the Home Department advised the Deputy Commissioners to detail the 'executive magistrates' as AFSPA has been lifted earlier from many police stations falling in these six districts.
According to PRO (Defence), operations were conducted by adopting a people friendly approach to include regular announcements to voluntarily surrender illegal arms and ammunition, prior to commencing search of specific areas.
Presence of magistrates, along with the columns, were also ensured during search operations in non-AFSPA areas, the PRO informed, adding that, 35 weapons (all types), ammunition and other warlike stores were recovered on Friday, the second consecutive day of the operation.
During the combing operations, adequate measures were undertaken to ensure that no inconvenience is caused to local population, the PRO added.
Security forces also continued search operations in Sugnu and Serou area under Kakching.

A combined team of Kakching and Thoubal district commando units, Special Commando, BSF and Assam Rifles led by additional SP (Ka - kching) Ch Binoy conducted search operations at Kuki villages including Nazareth, Sokom, Sugnu tribal villages and Sawomphai, which are in Chandel district but fall under Sugnu police station from 8:30 am till 12 noon.
During the operation, the combined team recovered 10 improvised bomb/grenade launchers, two single barrel guns, numerous live ammunition and empty cases, and other items which were handed over to Sugnu police station for further necessary action.
Security forces had also conducted search operation at Thingkanphai village on Wednes-day during which it had recovered 10 impro-vised bomb launchers made from GI pipes.
