Imphal, June 08 2023:
Denouncing the demand raised for a separate administration for Chin-Kuki, AMUCO's sit-in demonstrations staged across Imphal today called on all indigenous communities to face the issue of illegal immigrants unitedly and save Manipur's integrity.
Identifying the present conflict as violence perpetrated by Kuki militants, infiltrators from Myanmar and their supporters, AMUCO president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang said the State at present is facing a serious issue that is threatening its integrity and future.
All indigenous communities should come together and face this challenge, he said.
Speaking to reporters at a sit-in protest organised at Kakwa Laiphrakpam Leikai which condemned the demand for the separate administration in Manipur, Pheiroijam Nando said amid the present unrest and call for the separate administration raised by 10 Chin-Kuki MLAs and militants, there is apprehension that President's Rule may be imposed in the State.
He said, at present, the Kuki militants, Kuki civil society organisations and their community leaders are pressuring the Government of India for creation of a separate administration within Manipur.
While the May 3 violence was initially portrayed as communal violence, their true and hidden agenda has come out in the open today, he added.
The AMUCO president asserted that the violence that has engulfed the State in flame is a calculated plan of the Myanmar drug/poppy cartels, their militants and supporters who have infiltrated into Manipur.
Their objective is to destabilise the law and order of the State, and carry out illegal drug business and poppy cultivation without any interference.
They want a separate administration for the Kukis as it would give them the autonomy they need to carry out drug/poppy business without any hurdle, he said.
Pheiroijam Nando continued that the drug cartels, Kuki militant groups, politicians, CSOs and their supporters are employing all kinds of tactics to lure the Government of India into giving them separate administration.
If the Centre falls prey to their bait, President's Rule may be imposed in the State, he said.
As the present issue has the hands of the infiltrators and outsiders who have crossed the border into the State, all the indigenous communities should come together, he said.
The sit-in protest at Kakwa Laiphrakpam Leikai was organised by Singjamei to Lilong United Clubs' Organisation (SLUCO) and Meira Paibi Lups of Kakwa.
Sit-ins were staged at Kakwa Lamdaibung, Kakwa Naorem Leikai, Singjamei Chingamakha Model Club, Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai, Kongba Road, Hiyangthang Keithel, Oinam Bazar and other places.
