Thoubal, June 08 2023:
Displaced people adversely affected by the outbreak of arson and violence at Sugnu, Serou, Wapokpi and Napat on May 27 last have urged the Government to take up measures for their resettlement.
The displaced people whose homes have been reduced to cinders are currently taking refuge at the relief camp opened at Athokpam Junior High School managed by Athokpam Awang Leikai Relief Committee under the aegis of former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
It is worth noting that a total of 53 displaced people including three pregnant women and children are staying in the relief camp.
Two inmates identified as Ningthoujam Pakpi of Napat Awang Leikai and Thoudam Ongbi Dasu of Sugnu Wapokpi while narrating their ordeal said they fled their homes when the miscreants started burning houses at their respective localities.
'We didn't get time to take any belongings apart from the clothes which we were wearing', they said.
They also expressed dismay that they are unable to calm their children who wish to return to their homes.
Considering their plights, they urged the authorities concerned to take up measures for their resettlement at their ancestral land by helping them to reconstruct their houses along with proper security for their safe return.
