Army rescues two Meiteis

Imphal, June 08 2023:
Two Meitei civilians held captive by Kuki militants at Prem Nagar, Leimakhong have been rescued by the army.
Two Meitei civilians identified as Laitonjam Kuber (54) s/o (L) Ibopishak and Louriyam Nilakanta alias Sanathoi (23) went to collect food grains from Prem Nagar village in Nilakanta's diesel auto rickshaw at around 6.30 am today.
The two rescued civilians are residents of Kanto Sabal, which is near Leimakhong.
While they were at Prem Nagar village, they were confronted by some armed Kukis.
Soon, the armed Kukis, after contacting other Kuki people over phone, overpowered the two Meitei and detained them inside a house with their hands and legs tied with a rope.
After getting information about the incident, a team of the army based at Leimakhong rushed to the house and rescued both of them safely.
Later they were handed over to their family members.
