Imphal, September 24 2021:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has submitted a memorandum to education minister over the row of Naorem Birahari College principal's post.
In the memorandum, DESAM demanded the government to place faculty member Ningombam Shitaljit under suspension till completion of the departmental enquiry while alleging he was got appointment in the college without fulfilling basic eligibility criteria.
It stated that Shitaljit was appointed as lecturer for Physics on December 16, 1996, completed BSc Physics Honours in 1993 and MSc Physics in 1997.The examination result for MSc Physics was declared on April 24, 1997 and it shows that he got appointment as lecturer without possession the Master's degree.
Amid the row, he furnished another appointment order dated August 7, 1997 and it has deepened the suspicion as it is questionable how two appointment orders can be issued to the same person, the memorandum said while demanding his suspension until the departmental enquiry is completed.
On the other hand, Ningombam Shitaljit said that there is no race for the post of principal in the college and he was appointed principal in-charge as per the verdict of the court.
Addressing a press meet at Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, Shitaljit said that it is unfortunate for some individuals to mislead the public and suggested that student bodies should not get involved in this issue.
Regarding his appointment in the college, Shitaljit said that he has been in the college since 1996 as he was appointed by the then principal and governing body while waiting for his Master's examination result, which came out after some months following which another order for re-appointment was issued.
At that time, the college had only up to class 12 and science teachers have major role in upgrading the college up to today's level.
He then refuted the claim of DESAM that he was not assaulted in their office and contended that he has all the evidences including medical reports.
One Birjit, who claims to be finance secretary of DESAM called him on phone On September and asked him to come to DESAM office.
He went to DESAM office twice on the next day.
On the second visit, he found former principal Akashini and Kunjabati at the DESAM office, and Birjit assaulted him in front of the two.
Condemning the assault, he urged DESAM to make Birjit surrender to police and settle the case.
