UKLF cadre involved in murder of NCP VP nabbed

Imphal, September 24 2021:
A special commando team has arrested one cadre of UKLF in connection with the murder of former vice-president of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chungsei Haokip at New Checkon in 2010.The arrested UKLF cadre has been identified as Thangkholen Baite alias Thangbem (38) son of late Hemkhojam Baite of Moreh Ward No 7, Zion village, presently staying at Leimakhong.
Police sources said that the special commando team led by OC in-charge Subedar L Bebekananda rushed to Leimakhong area on Thursday morning around 5 after receiving intelligence input of presence of some UG cadres.
During a search operation in T Phainum village, the team came across a man, who hurried away on seeing them.
The team intercepted him and during questioning he confessed of being an ex-cadre of Chin National Army and he joined the group in 1999.He received basic army training for 45 days in Chin State of Myanmar.
He resigned from the group in 2004 and joined UKLF in 2005 under the outfit's self-styled deputy home secretary Jaminlen Haokip alias Kennedy.
He also disclosed that he along with a fellow cadre Hemkhothang Baite alias Thangboi killed the former vice-president of NCP Chungsei Haokip at the instruction of Kennedy on April 25, 2010 and he went into hiding in Chandel district after carrying out the assassination.
He also confided that he received Rs 20,000 from Kennedy for assassinating Chungsei Haokip.
He was handed over to Saparmeina police station.
Mention may be made that an FIR was registered in relation with the assassination of the NCP vice-president at Porompat police station.
