Imphal, September 24 2021:
Various organisations including Naga Women's Union (NWU), Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland), ZB state units, All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU), Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), Zeliangrong Union (AMN) and Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) have condemned the abduction and murder of ZB advisor and former president Athuan Abonmai by some unknown miscreants on September 22 and demanded that the state government to take up stringent action to deliver justice at the earliest possible according to law of the land.
In a release, NWU president Asha Wungnam stated that every right-thinking citizen should condemn in strongest term against the barbaric, coward and inhuman act.
Killings cannot be justified and is unacceptable.
Such heinous crime is and should never and ever be accepted in our society, she said and expressed deepest sympathy to family and relatives of Athuan Abonmai.
Similarly, Zeliangrong CSOs consisting of ZB (AMN), ZB state units, All AZSU) and ZYF, stated that the Dimki session of ZB (AMN) at Asalu village held on Thursday expressed anguish on the cold-blooded murder of its former leader without any cognisable reason.
The magnitude of crime is un-imaginable because the incident happened right in front of the security personnel and amidst the visit of highest seat of a state, the chief minister.
Complacency, both of the government and its security agency is highly questionable, regarding the location and time of the incident, it said.
The Zeliangrong bodies asserted that any level of differences in the opinion, interest or ideology can be solved, if imbibed with a democratic ideal.
They also expressed suspicion of underground involvement and if so, asked them to identify the culprit and take befitting action in order to evade future confusion.
Meanwhile, ZU (AMN) and its frontal organisations ZU Imphal, Sadar and Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Nungba, Khoupum, Noney, Barak Valley, Tamenglong and Senapati zones as well as Zeliangrong Women Union, Kabul Mother Association Manipur (KAMA) and Zeliangrong Football Association (ZFA) condoled the death of Athuan Abonmai.
On the other hand, UAL stated that the kidnapping of Athuan Abonmai right in front of security forces during the CM's Go to Hill' programme shows the weakness of the present government.
History gives ample proof that gun cannot defeat truth.
In a small state like Manipur indulging in ethnic centric politics will be downfall of all of us, so it is time that people of the state understand that only equal development and harmony between communities can ensure the existence of the indigenes of the state, it added.
