Work on District Science Centre inspected

Commissioner of Science & Technology, Devesh on Friday inspected progress of the construction of District Science Centre and Planetarium which started, in 2018 under the Manipur Tribal Development Council (MTDC) .
The science centre ing constructed at a project cost of Rs 3.9 crore.
Due to Covid-19 lockdown and its accompanying problems, progress of the work had been slowed but the pace of the work has picked up to ensure completion of the civil work within the next 2-3 months.
The science centre has been constructed with funds provided by North Eastern Council.
It has components like planetarium, science museum, computer training centre, 3D theatre, to name a few.
However, 80 percent of the civil works have been completed, the contractors informed.
Devesh, during his interaction with media persons stated that there are two parts - one is the construction of civil works and other is the installation of machineries by a specialised body, National Council of Science Museum based in Kolkata.
He informed that the civil works will be completed soon and it will be followed by installation of all machineries to make it a science centre.
The commissioner also noted that the place is suitably located and it has potential to attract tourist, besides the centre being situated a little bit away from the main town.
