Former Secretariat member of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Comrade Lang-poklakpam Kunjo passed away today at his residence at Khundrakpam Makha Leikai.
He was 91 and his body has been donated to RIMS to be used in medical education.
Comrade L Kunjo played a major role during the farmers' struggle in Manipur under the leadership of Jananeta Hijam Irabot.
He also took part actively in the struggle for attainment of Statehood and to include Manipuri language in the Eight Schedule, said a press release issued by CPI (M), Manipur State Committee.
He became a prominent member of CPI (M), held the post of president of Manipur Loumi Marup and was a member of All India Kisan Council as well, added the release.
Condoling his demise CPI (M), Manipur State Committee observed two minute silence in honour of the departed soul and stated that his demise is an irreparable loss for the working class and farmers of the State.
As a mark of honour, the party flag will be flown at half mast for a week, said the release.
His body has been donated to the Department of Anatomy, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal today for academic purpose as per the desire of the deceased during his lifetime.
His 'Will' in this regard was prepared by his wife on September 23, said a press release issued by HOD of Department of Anatomy, RIMS, Professor RK Ajita.
The Department of Anatomy, RIMS lauded the sense of commitment to the cause of Medical education.
