Anganwadi, ASHA workers stage protest

All Manipur ASHA Workers' Union and Anganwadi Workers and Helpers' Union, Manipur joined the nationwide strike of scheme workers called by Central Trade Union and staged a sit-in protest at Kangabam Yumjao Lairembi community hall here on Friday.
The protestors also tried to take out a march towards the CM's bungalow to submit a memorandum but the police stopped them before reaching Keishampat junction.
From there, they were made to return to the community hall after which some representatives were allowed to go and submit the memorandum to the CM.
The protestors told media per sons that the state government has been ignoring the demand for hike of honorarium of ASHA, Anganwadi and mini workers as well as helpers even though other states have already increased the honorarium.
In the memorandum, they are demanding the government to increase their honorarium so that they could survive on the income and to regularise their service.
They also said that they are working in the frontline during the Covid-19 pandemic apart from other routine immunisation programmes.
Besides, the government has not been providing Rs 300 monthly uniform allowance for ASHA and Anganwadi workers, which was assured in 2008, they said, while cautioning of launching intense form of agitation if the government continues to ignore their plights.
