'Youths should focus on Biodiversity Conservation', says VC of DMU

A one day international online seminar on Youth and Environment, 2021 was organised today to commemorate the foundation day of National Serviced Scheme (NSS).
The International online seminar was jointly organised by the Biodiversity, Ecology and Environment Network (BEENET Manipur), the Pole Star College, the NSS Cell, Manipur University and Department of Yoga, Manipur University with Dr Maibam Nodiyachand Singh as the organising secretary, said a press release issued by NSS-Cell Co-ordinator and HOD, Department of Yoga, Manipur University.
In the inaugural session, speaking as the Chief Guest, Prof N Rajamuhon Singh, Vice Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University said that Biodiversity Conservation is the foremost responsibility of youths for bright future life.
He also urged the youths to take the major responsibility in safeguarding the environment.
Prof Debananda Ningthoujam of the department of Biochemistry, Manipur University expressed that forest and wetlands like the Loktak Lake are the essential components for healthy earth thus the fate of the earth is majorly dependent on the conditions of forests and the wetlands.
Dipak Kumar, Regional Director, NSS, Regional Directorate, Guwahati and Dr T Brajakumar Singh, Joint Director, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Govt of Manipur attended as the guests of honours of the function.
The technical session of the seminar was moderated by former professor of the Department of Life science, MU, P Kumar with Dr Senjam Sunil Assistant Prof, Department of Biochemistry, MU as the co-moderator and rapporteur was Dr N Yaiphaba, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, DMU.
Altogether five speakers from abroad and from the country took part in the seminar namely Dr Maibam Nodiyachand Singh, NSS Programme Co-ordinator and HOD of Yoga, Manipur University spoke on the topic-"Youth Volunteerism" ; Dr H Narendra, Scientist-D Indian Institute Tropical Meteorology, Pune, Ministry of Earth science, Government of India on the topic-"Global Climate Change & Rainfall" ; Dr Thangal Yumnamcha, Post Doctoral fellow, School of Medicine, USA on the topic-"Environmental crisis" ; Dr Rajiv Kangabam ,Manager BRTC, KIIT Technology Business Incubator KIIT University Bhubaneshwar on the topic �"Loktak Lake:A Goldmine for Scientific Research" and Dr Chingakham Chinglenthoiba (John) Research Associate, National University of Singapore (NUS) on the topic-"Micro plastic is Everywhere".
A total of 278 persons including academicians in environmental Scientists, administrators, NSS programme officers and volunteers, faculties of Manipur University and abroad have participated in the seminar today.
