PANDM points to failure of Govt intelligence machinery

Imphal, September 24 2021: People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) has claimed that the abduction and cold blooded murder of Athuan Abonmai is a testament of the complete failure of the intelligence machinery of the Government.

A press release issued by PANDM said that they condemn the killing of Athuan Abonmai, former president of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) in the strongest term.

Saying that Abonmai was abducted from Tamenglong Headquarters while attending a Go to Hills programme in front of scores of security personnel, PANDM questioned the purpose of deploying police commandos and State security personnel near the venue.

"What were these security forces who are infamous for launching lathi charge and shooting live and rubber bullets on civilians doing when Abonmai was abducted," it asked and expressed suspicion of the involvement of State security's hands in the abduction.

Though not a single group has claimed responsibility for killing Abonmai to date, people are pointing their fingers at NSCN (IM), PANDM said and asked if the Government of India has given a license to kill to the said outfit.

It further claimed that the contentious Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council Bill, 2021 was recommended under the influence of certain political parties to create issues.

Saying that Abonmai was a straightforward leader, PANDM said that his demise has left an irreparable void.

PANDM observed a two-minute silence to pray for the departed soul to rest in peace.
