Awangbow inaugurates cultural session of PNNM

In continuation of the ongoing 7th general conference of Poumai Naga Women's Union (PNNM) at Oinam hill village, forest minister Awangbow Newmai inaugurated the cultural session on Monday while Poumai Naga tribe accorded the minister a warm traditional welcome.
In his address at the event, Awangbow Newmai recalled the immense hardships Oinam villagers had faced during Operation Bluebird in 1987 and shared the tears of the people during that time.
Lauding the role played by women who are shouldering responsibility in the society which their male counterpart could not match with, Awangbow Newmai said that a society cannot develop only by male and a family without woman could not raise children properly.
In spite of all the important roles played by women in the family, society and community, women still bear the burden of life, he noted, while adding that the future of a society depends oh women.
Replying to a memorandum submitted to him during the event, Awangbow Newmai expressed happiness over Oinam hill village authority's willingness to nurture tree saplings under National Afforestation programme and Green India Mission, thus showing their awareness of the environmental issue.
The minister assured of taking up all necessary steps to fulfil the wish of the villagers within a short time.
ADC Senapati former chairmen RS Hiilii Henry and ML Markson, all former ADC members, NPMHR convener, Senapati District Women's Association president Mao Women president and Thangal Women president attended the event as special guests.
Cultural demonstration on indigenous salt making, harping of mouth string, traditional raincoat knitting, traditional yarn making from wood bark for weaving, indigenous games, single stringed musical instruments were showcased among other cultural dances and folk songs on the occasion.
