Imphal, December 13 2021:
Demanding stringent punishment of all those involved in the death of IRB jawan Yumnam Sanjit, who was an escort party of Saikul A/C MLA Yamthong Haokip, the joint action committee (JAC) so formed staged a sit-in protest at Tengdonyan Mamang Leikai on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, Sanjit's wife Bebena recounted that her husband informed her about some arguments he had with other security personnel of the MLA shortly before she received information that he was admitted to the hospital.
Later, through his mobile phone another person conveyed that he met an accident and was admitted to a hospital.
Upon asking whether he indulged in any kind of fight or was drunk, his security colleagues conceded that no such act occurred, she narrated.
When admitted to the hospital, no contact number of those who brought her husband was given to the hospital.
Instead the mobile number of the injured person was registered.
Moreover, the call history of Sanjit's phone was also found deleted, she said.
The claim that her husband was inebriated and met an accident is baseless, Bebena refuted, while adding that they previously said that he met the accident hear a chicken coop and later change the version to a bathroom.
Such contradictory claims show that there is some conspiracy, she alleged.
Bebena continued that Sanjit's security colleagues could not be contacted since his admission to the hospital.
In addition to it, Saikul A/C MLA at whose house he was posted for duty remains silent till now.
She urged the authorities concerned to find out the truth about her husband's death and initiate appropriate measures to punish those responsible for the death of her husband.
The post mortem examination of Sanjit was conducted at RIMS morgue on Monday but family members declined to claim thecorpse.
Meanwhile, convenor of the JAC N Gunamani, in a release, informed that the body will not be claimed until probe is conducted against the security personnel involved and MLA Yamthong Haokip.
More intense forms of agitation including imposition of NH-2 blockade will be launched if the demand is not met, he cautioned.
