Unfortunate of MLA, ministers to shirk responsibilities: MLA Korungthang

Urging the people to make the MLAs and ministers focus on development activities and not indulge in personal and private matters, Tengnoupal A/C MLA D Korungthang said that it is unfortunate of the elected representatives to shirk their responsibilities.
He was speaking in a felicitation of successful people of Maring community organised by Maringa Tangbangna Dangshawa Yinglam (MTDY) cum MTDY general assembly 2021 at Sinanu Institute of Sciences, Maringphai on Sunday.
Korungthang further said that people of the state are not making the MLAs and the ministers do what they should be doing.
They are elected by people not to plough or toil in farms.
Their responsibility is to make laws and take up schemes and policies for the welfare of the state and its people.
Questioning how MLAs could work for the people if they are attending private functions like wedding and other events, he said that it is not the responsibility of MLAs or the ministers.
Instead of keeping the MLA sand ministers busy in discussing with officials of their departments to bring out new policies, they are made to attend private functions.
He highlighted that the elected representatives should read books and gather new ideas so as to make new laws, schemes and policies in view of the changing times.
He urged the people to invite the elected representatives only in programmes related to inspection and discussion about development and inconveniences face by the people.
The development works to be taken up by MLA is not from own pocket but will be done after discussing with the government.
It would be wrong to have the notion that MLA should be a crorepati.
People should not think that those who can construct road from their own sources and give money to the people are good leaders, he cautioned.
The function was also attended by Maring Naga Baptist Association (MNBA) executive secretary Reverend D Shong and Maring Uparap Assemby (MUA) president K Yaima as presidium members.
Several officers in active and civil service including SDO Paomata Dr Angshim Dangshawa and sports persons who brought laurels for Maring community were felicitated by presenting mementos.
Later, general assembly of Maringa Tangbangna Dangshawa Yinglam for the year 2021 was convened.
