Meghalaya tops NE in getting PMJAY benefits

Manipur recorded hospitalisation of 16,369 beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan ArogyaYojana (AB-PMJAY) in 2020-21 .
Meanwhile, Meghalaya is the top state in the northeast in getting benefits under the scheme, which provides financial assistance to poor families in times of hospitalisation.
As per data released by ministry of health and family welfare, there are around 50 crore beneficiaries of PMJAY in the country with Manipur having 2,73,250 beneficiaries.
Number of beneficiaries in the north-eastern states are 88,611 in Arunachal Pradesh; 26,96,996 in Assam; 3,47,013 in Meghalaya; 1,94,859 in Mizoram; 2,33,328 in Nagaland; 39,738 in Sikkim; and 4,90,964 in Tripura.
Under the scheme, the Centre had released Rs 7.18 crore in 2018-19, Rs 17.10 crore in 2019-20 and Rs 11.45 crore in 2020-21 for Manipur.
In 2020-21, the Centre released Rs 12.10 crore for Assam, Rs 0.67 crore for Arunachal Pradesh, Rs 49.52 crore for Meghalaya, Rs 14.97 crore for Mizoram, Rs 12.27 crore for Nagaland, Rs 1.85 crore for Sikkim and Rs 8.98 crore for Tripura.
In Meghalaya, 1,146 beneficiaries were hospitalised in 2018-19,1,24,716 in 2019-20, and 1,23,737 beneficiaries in 2020-21.In Manipur, 1,508 beneficiaries were hospitalised in 2018-19,12,807 in 2019-20, and 16,369 in 2020-21.In 2020-21, 30,238 beneficiaries were hospitalised in Tripura, 2,027 beneficiaries in Sikkim, 7,358 in Nagaland, 16,991 beneficiaries in Mizoram, 93,355 beneficiaries in Assam, and 77 beneficiaries in Arunachal Pradesh, the report said.
