Many Rongmei civil society organisations have demand-ed withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 to bring an end to the atrocities committed under its ambit.
In a joint statement issued today, the Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation (RNYO), Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Mani-pur (RNYOM), Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation (RNSO) and Rongmei Luh Phuam (RLP) North East India condemned the Oting massacre that happened at Oting village in Mon district of Nagaland wherein 14 innocent lives were killed by Assam Rifles on December 4.Such barbaric treatment committed by the largest 'democracy' of the world was very unbecoming and glaringly displayed sheer inhumanity in front of the whole world, added the statement.
The Rongmei people also organised a candle light vigil yesterday at Tarung, Imphal in protest against the excesses of the Indian armed forces.
