Role of women on promotion of culture extolled

The 7th General Conference of Poumai Naga Women's Union (PNNM) was inaugurated by Tribal Affairs and Hills minister Vungzagin Valte as the chief guest in the presence of PHE minister L Dikho as the guest of honour.
The visiting guests were accorded a warm traditional welcome.
Speaking on the occasion, minister L Dikho lauded the union and the tribe women for their unity and discipline by displaying all their talents God has given them and said that women have a big role to play for the development of society.
He also lauded Poumai women, noting their advancement in many fields.
Dikho urged the gathering to encourage, one another and grow together through such programme.
Chief guest Vungzagin Valte, while lauding the collective effort of the women in holding such a grand event, promised to set up an Eklavya Model Residential School within the jurisdiction of Oinam Hill village.
He informed that there are currently around 1,04,000 students who are sponsored by the Ministry giving free education to them, adding that there was a gap during the last pandemic but he assured of starting the process once Covid situation improves in the state.
In her presidential speech, P Delilah Pao, president PNNM, stressed on the need to redeem the culture and identity of the land as given in the theme of the programme.
She pointed out that culture being the total process of human activity needs to be examined and redeemed in this modern age to develop and a right relationship has to be created in the face of extreme modernization for people to value.
Culture is something that defines who one is and therefore it needs to be promoted and nurtured as culture will remain one's identity, Delilah added.
While opining that woman have a big role in promoting and preserving culture, the PNNM leader described women as the main carrier of one's culture and identity.
Men's endorsement and continued support to women in preserving culture is said to help better the society, she said.
As the women of the region celebrated womanhood and showcased various items and activities during the conference, the PNNM president urged to continue to work for the betterment of women for a better world.
Additional chief secretary, directors and engineers were reportedly sent to the spot for construction of the Eklavya Model Residential School in Oinam Hill village.
The minister also called the day as Women's Day in Manipur with Nupi Lai in the valley and women in the hill holding women's conference on the same day.
Cultural demonstration, cultural dances and other cultural items were showcased during the programme.
