PNNM general conference: Awangbow Newmai inaugurates cultural session

In continuation of the ongoing 7th General Conference of Poumai Naga Women's Union (PNNM) held at Oinam Hill village, Forest Minister Awangbow Newmai inaugurated the cultural session on Monday.
The Poumai Naga tribe gave a warm welcome to the guests in different traditional tunes.
Speaking on the occasion, P Delilah Pao, president PNNM welcomed all the visiting guests and stated that their presence had made the occasion more special.
Awangbow Newmai recalled the hardships faced by Oinam Hill villagers during 1987 when Operation Bluebird was enforced in the area.
The Minister also stressed on the roles played by women and stated that a society cannot develop without first empowering women.

"Behind every successful man, there is always a woman", he added.
In regard to a memorandum submitted to him, the Minister expressed his joy over the willingness of Oinam Hill Village Authority to grow tree saplings under National Afforestation Programme and Green India Mission.
The event was attended by RS Hiilii Henry, ex-chairman ADC and ML Markson, ex-chairman ADC along with other former ADC members, convenor, NPMHR, president & members of Senapati District Women's Association, president of Mao Women, and president of Thangal Women.
Demonstrations on indigenous salt manufacturing, harp of mouth string, traditional raincoat knitting, traditional yarn making from wood bark for weaving, indigenous games, single string musical instruments, etc were displayed during the event.
