Kangpokpi, October 18 2022:
The South Changoubung Village Authority in Kangpokpi district issued a notification with regard to its village boundary (demarcation line) with its neighbouring villages such as T Khullen, Ningthoupham, Pungtang, M Thana, Hengbung, Thonglang, Chawangkining, Maohing, West Haipi, etc.
According to the notification, as per Kuki customs and traditions, no land shall be sold without the consent of the village chief, and if any land transaction in defiance of the restriction is found to be carried out then the same will be taken as against the customs and traditions, which will invite socio-economic sanctions on the culprits from the clan leaders and villagers.
As a matter of fact, even if there is any known land sale deed or such agreements about land belonging to Changoubung village, the same will not be recognised by the people of Changoubung and the village authority.
Therefore, if any land is even sold to a particular buyer, there should be no construction/erection of any kind of infrastructure or practice of cultivation on that plot of land as it infringes on the traditional rights and privileges of the people of Changoubung Village, the notification said.
The South Changoubung Village Authority also stated that "the information is being issued for mutual understanding with our neighbouring villages to prevent any untoward misunderstanding and finally to maintain peaceful co-existence" .
