Imphal, December 07 2021:
Apna Dal (Sonelal), Manipur Pradesh president Konthoujam Manoranjan has appealed to armed groups in the state to stop threatening intending candidates and asking for donations.
Addressing a press meet at its office here on Tuesday, Manoranjan said that the party's general secretary (administration) and intending candidate of Keirao Makting MI Khan was threatened by an armed group by planting a grenade at his gate with a warning not to contest the 2022 state assembly election.
Large number of people from the constituency are supporting him for the forthcoming election and threatening to stop him from contesting the election is very unfortunate, he said.
Every politician should love and respect the public and give up the idea of using might to win elections.
The party's leaders and workers are ready to face any challenges for the welfare of the public.
The party believes in the power of agriculture but not of guns, he said.
Further stating that the public are well aware about MI Khan and himself, Manoranjan said MI Khan had given up his past and entered politics to serve the public and bring development in the society.
He then appealed to the group behind the threat not to repeat such acts in future and also called upon all to put an end to gun culture in politics.
Intending candidates of the forthcoming elections have spent huge amount in helping the public during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Amid this situation, they are also facing monetary demands and threats from different armed groups, which most of them do not disclose to the public or even to their family members.
He then appealed to all to make the election peaceful, free and fair so that public could freely choose their right candidates.
He also drew attention of the chief minister to take up security measures to ensure safety of MI Khan, whose house is beyond the high security zone of the state capital.
He further appealed to the government to provide security cover to the party's office at Old Lambulane during office hours.
