Imphal, December 07 2021:
Imphal West commando arrested a 58-year old man named Yumkhaibam Bimol of Lilong Arapti Mamang Leikai allegedly for speaking in a political conference of Yaiskul AC's intending candidate Thounaojam Brinda.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, Bimol's daughter Y Tampha said that a team of police commandos including two persons in civil dress came to their house on Tuesday around 6.30 am and arrested her father.
The CDO team did not provide any arrest memo or furnished reason for the arrest of her father.
Instead, they told her that they were simply following orders of SP Imphal West.
Tampha, however, said that she overheard the CDO personnel talking among themselves about her father speaking during a political conference of Thounaojam Brinda as the reason for his arrest.
His father is a blacksmith, she said and demanded the authority to clarify the reason for his arrest.
Retired assistant commandant Ak Ibomcha said that a political conference for Thounaojam Brinda was held at Yumnam Leikai Maning Leirak on Sunday in which he attended as functional president.
Yumkhaibam Bimol presented his opinions during the conference and he did not speak anything unlawful.
It is unfortunate for police to arrest a civilian for simply speaking in an intending candidate's political conference, he said, while drawing attention of the government for releasing Bimol at the earliest.
