Illegal tax collection: HV Logistics under Govt scanner

The transport department said that necessary action as per the existing law will be initiated against HV Logistics for illegal tax collection from trucks.
According to a statement of transport department, HV Logistics having head office at Nagaram Block A, Imphal East and branch office at Senapati was issued licence by the transport authority for doing business of collecting, forwarding and distribution of potato, onion and garlic.
Initially, the transport company was issued licence for two years from December 23, 2017 to December 22, 2019 and further extended the licence on three occasions (up to 22/12/2020, up to 22/12/2022 & up to 31/12/2023) as permissible under the Manipur Motor Vehicle (Licensing of Agents) Rules, 1976 and u/s 93 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1998.However, it has come to the notice from various social media about tax collection by HV Logistics to the tune of Rs 2000 per truck as road tax at Mao Gate, which is not permissible under the existing motor vehicle Acts & Rules.
Accordingly, necessary action against the licensee (HV Logistics) will be initiated, the statement issued by director (transport) Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam said.
