Transport Dept takes serious note

Taking serious note of a post on social media that alleges HV Logistics of collecting Rs 2,000 per truck as road tax at Mao Gate, the Transport Department has said that necessary actions will be taken in the case.
A press release issued by the Directorate of Transport said, the alleged tax collection in the name of HV Logistics, Rs 2,000 per goods as claimed on social media is not permissible under the existing Motor Vehicle Acts and Rules.
Necessary action against the licensee for such illegal collection of tax will be initiated by the department under the law in force, it said.
Notably, a post on social media including on Facebook had accused HV Logistics Senapati Branch Office of collecting Rs 2,000 per truck at Mao Gate had gone viral recently.
HV Logistics, Nagaram Block-A, Laipham Siphai, Imphal East was issued license by the State Transport Authority for doing business of collecting, forwarding and distributing potato, onion and garlic initially for two years from 23/12/2017 to 22/12/2019 and it was further extended on three occasions (upto 22/12/2020, upto 22/12/2022 and upto 31/12/2023) under the Manipur Motor Vehicle (Licensing of Agents), Rules, 1976 and under Section 93 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 .
Under Rule 8 of the Manipur Motor Vehicle (Licensing Agents) Rules, 1976, it is clearly mentioned that the licensee shall not charge any commission exceeding that prescribed rate by the State Transport Authority under Rule 10 of the Manipur Motor Vehicle (Licensing Agents) Rules, 1976, said the Transport Department.
