Meitei Leepun president M Pramod highlighted the importance of maintaining proper demarcation of territory of Meitei villages.
He was speaking at the occasion of erecting a memorial border pillar at Nongshum village today by Meitei Leepun.
Makeng Dolaithabi Zila Parishad member N Sanatomba Meetei; Lamboikhul Nongshum Ward member H Sanayai; Nongshum Development Committee president Y Thabal also graced the programme which was organised by Nongshum Yakairol Leisem Youth Club YLYC.
The memorial border pillar was erected at two border sites of Nongshum village.
M Pramod while speaking at the occasion further raised concern on the decreasing land areas of indigenous villages owned by Meetei/Meitei community due to non-availability of proper land ownership documents and failure to safeguard such land.
Owing to the above reasons, these villages are under constant threat of their lands being snatched or illegally taken over by alleged outsiders which is a common phenomenon, he added.
Therefore he stressed on the need of taking up similar measures of erecting border pillars and to have proper demarcation of indigenous village areas to avoid any unwanted outcome.
N Sanatomba Meetei while welcoming the above exemplary steps taken up by Nongshum village and Meitei Leepun, assured to take up such measures at villages under the jurisdiction of Makeng Dolaithabi Zila Parishad to safeguard its territory.
