12th Kanglei Mega Sports Festival gets underway

The 12th edition of Kanglei Mega Sports Festival organised by Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) in connection with the Yaoshang celebration was formally opened today at Mapal Kangjeibung.
Th Shyamkumar, MLA Andro AC; Sheikh Noorul Hassan, MLA Kshetrigao AC and KSA president S Bidyananda attended the inaugural function of the 6-day sporting event which was opened with a cauldron lighting ceremony with a torch brought from historic Kangla.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Andro AC MLA who is also an advisor the Chief Minister, highlighted that Manipur is known to the world for "Sports and Culture" and expressed happiness over the gradual shift from unnecessary activities--rampant use of intoxicants and splashing of foul waters and colours, towards sports during the Yaosang festival days.
He also lauded KSA for organising such a multi-discipline cultural and sporting event aimed at encouraging youth to fitness regime, remain disciplined and become responsible citizens in the future.
He also praised KSA and other student bodies for their proactive role in boosting education sector by overseeing and highlighting many aspects of schools and aiding Government's continued effort to further improve conditions of schools.
Andro AC MLA also went on to say that the State Government is belligerently fighting drug issues through "War on Drugs" and urged all sections of the society to lend their hand and make the cause successful.
Guest of honour of the programme, Sheikh Noorul Hassan also maintained that the initiative of KSA to organise the event was worthwhile and laudable.
Expressing concern over the ever "losing advantage to outsiders" amidst enmity amongst the local communities, Noorul Hassan preached for unity and peaceful coexistence to help move the society forward.
He also stressed on the importance of inculcating fitness habits among the students to help build a healthy and eminent society.
KSA president in the meantime said that colour splashing, collection of donations by blocking roads, use of intoxicants and other unwanted activities on the pretext of the festival are very unfortunate.
With a bid to reduce the unwanted activities, the sports festival is being organised, Bidyananda added.
