Imphal, March 06 2023:
While wishing the people a joyous Yaoshang, the Police Department has issued a message for the people to celebrate the festival in a harmonious and peaceful manner.
Police personnel at every station will maintain a strict vigil throughout the 5 days of the festival to avoid unwanted incidents from happening, said Additional DGP (L/O) L Kailun.
The top cop said this while meeting Editors of local dailies today.
The meeting was organised by the Police Department in view of Yaoshang that begins tomorrow and to ensure peace during the festival.
L Kailun appealed to the people to cooperate in maintaining peace and harmony during the festival and said, in order to deal with any untoward situation, all the officers in police stations have been instructed to maintain strict vigil on anti-social elements and conduct intensive patrolling.
They have also been advised to organise meetings with the locals and clubs to work out any programmes including sports activities, he said.
The Police Department encourages organising sport activities during Yaoshang, however, such activities should not disturb public tranquility and traffic, he added.
The officer urged the people, especially youths to avoid using obscene words or slogans, or singing of obscene songs and the use of gestures or mimetic representations and the preparation, exhibition or dissemination of pictures, symbols, placards or any other objects or things which may offend dignity, decency or morality.
He also advised people to abandon the practice of spraying or throwing coloured water, dyes or powder on pedestrians and avoid preparation and/or throwing of balloons filled with coloured or plain water or any liquid.
"The Police Department wishes the people of Manipur a happy, peaceful and joyous Holi," he said.
