Imphal, March 06 2023:
Decrying that the authorities are unable to commence semester classes in time and are not adhering to the academic calendar, PG students of DM University today locked the university's A-Block and staged a sit-in-protest.
PG (3rd) semester students staged a protest demonstration in front of the A-Block this afternoon and they put up placards which read as "Complete classification of PG and UG teachers of DMU at the earliest" and "DMU authority should adhere to the academic calendar" etc.
Talking to the media, DMU PG Students' Association general secretary L Poireiton said that students who studied PG 1st semester in 2020-21 have not been given their marksheets till date.
Moreover, the 3rd semester session has not been completed even though the students should have been already promoted to 4th semester, he said.
Students belonging to the same PG batch studying in other universities have completed the 4th semester and they are already preparing for PhD, Poireiton said.
The DMU is still unable to classify PG and UG teachers, he said.
Even though the Vice Chancellor and authorities have been approached repeatedly to address all these lapses and commence the 4th semester class, they have not been paying any attention to the students' woos, he lamented.
He said that the students' careers are in serious jeopardy.
Informing that the VC gave assurance to complete the process of classifying PG and UG teachers before the end of the Yaoshang festival and commence the 4th semester class soon after, the general secretary said that they would be compelled to launch more intense forms of agitation if the VC fails to fulfil his assurance.
