Legal awareness progs organised

Under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Chandel in association with National Commission for Women organised a one-day legal awareness programme on 'Empowerment of Rights of Tribal Women in the Hill Areas' at Sinadam village in Chandel District on Monday.
The programme was attended by DLSA retainer lawyer Jacky Lucy and panel lawyer JS Chamdil Anal, who spoke on the topics of 'Rape, Sexual Assault, POCSO cases, Acid Attack, Dowry Threat and other criminal laws' and 'Marriage and Divorce, Maintenance Law and Family Laws' respectively as resource persons.
The programme was attended by executive members of tribal women organisations, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and members of village organisations.
Meanwhile, in connection with International Women's Week, DLSA, Ukhrul and Halang Shanao Long, Ukhrul district jointly organised a legal awareness programme for the womenfolk of Halang village on Monday.
The programme was attended by District and Sessions Judge, Ukhrul cum chairman DLSA, Ukhrul Samom Ibjen and CJM Ukhrul cum secretary DLSA Ukhrul Hiralata Moirangthem along with the chairman, secretary and members of Halang Shanao Long, and womenfolk of Halang village.
Hiralata Moirangthem spoke on 'Women and Labour related laws, Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace, Maternity Benefit Act, Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act and PNDT Act'; while 6ne-Stop Centre paralegal advocate Sumichon spoke on 'Domestic Violence, Marriage and Di vorce, POCSO Act and related laws' as resource persons.
An interaction projgramme between the participants and resource persons was also facilitated.
In all, 70 women from Halang village attended the programme.
