BJP conducts cleanliness drive ahead of G20

BJP Manipur Pradesh on Thursday organised a cleanliness drive in and around Khwairamband Keithel ahead of the two-day-G2O events to be held in the state.

Pradesh president A Sharda, Sagolband MLA RK Imo and Uripok MLA Kh Raghumani led the party members in the cleanliness drive, which covered Thangal Keithel, MG Avenue, BT Road, western side of Mapal Kangjeibung, Paona Keithel and four market complexes of Khwairamband Ima Keithel.
Interacting with media on the sidelines the programme, Khemchand appreciated the courage of chief minister N Biren, who is taking up a big challenge by hosting G2O events in the state, where there is not a single 5-star hotel.
He further said that this is a good opportunity to showcase and promote tourism potential, exhibit hospitality, exquisite cuisine, art and culture of the state.
Observing that some of the people living in IMC area are found randomly disposing waste materials, he urged the people for proper disposal of waste materials so that NGOs engaged by IMC could collect them.
He also said that daily waste generation in IMC area has reached 150 tonnes and the government is facing challenges in solid waste management.
The minister then appealed to the people to store plastic wastes separately from other waste materials for easy sorting.
According to A Sharda, India is hosting the G20 summit under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it is a privilege for the state to host some of the events here.
She expressed confidence that the G20 events will help in boosting industry and trade in the state, which will lead to economic development.
She also called for public cooperation in expediting the development initiatives being taken up by the double engine government.
