CM moots permanent aero sports facility, fetes Agniveers

Chief minister N Biren has proposed for opening a permanent aero sports facility in the state after finding a suitable location and exploring its feasibility.
The CM made the proposal while speaking as chief guest at the closing function of the 1st North East Aero-Sports Hot Air Balloon and Para-Motor Fiesta 2023 held at Phubala on Thursday.
The event inaugurated on February 11 was organised by Manipur Aero Sports Association (MASA) in association with Khasia Ventures and sponsored by Tourism Department with technical support from Adventure Wing, Indian Army.
In his speech, CM Biren thanked the Indian Army, who provided technical support through its Adventure Wing for the event and highlighted that Manipur is suitable for such adventure sports activities.
Further acknowledging the army's contribution in safeguarding the nation, Biren also stated that Manipur produces the highest number of defence officers per capita of the population, maybe next to Punjab.
Today, Manipur is also becoming a tourist hotspot, he said highlighting the INA Headquarters at Moirang, Sangai Ethnic Park and the upcoming G-20 events in the state.
CM also appealed to the people settling along the highway to accord a warm and traditional welcome to the visiting delegates of the G-20 event.
The closing function was also attended ministers Govindas Konthoujam and L Susindro Meitei, MP (Rajya Sabha) Leishemba Sanajaoba, Moirang MLA Th Shanti, LDA chairman M Asnikumar and officials of the 57 Mountain Division among others.
Earlier in the morning, the chief minister inspected the Sangai Ethnic Park at Moirang Khunou and Heritage Site INA at Moirang.
The park is a major destination of the G-20 delegates, who will be reaching the state on Friday.
Biren also attended a ribbon cutting ceremony of the Loktak Lake Front at Sendra.
In another event on Thursday, chief minister Biren felicitated 22 youths of Manipur, who got selected for Agniveer 2022-23, at Chief Minister's Secretariat.
Interacting with the Agniveer recruits, Biren motivated them and said new recruits have got the opportunity to serve the country.
He advised them to render their service together for the nation as one, irrespective of the communities they belong to.
He also said that after completing their period of service as Agniveers, they would be provided employment opportunities in the state government's job recruitments.
The chief minister also extended words of appreciation to Brigadier Bikram Saini and his team for their initiatives to provide pre-recruitment training to the youth and guided them for the selection.
He also appreciated the far-sighted vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to recruit youths in the Indian Armed Forces through Agnipath Scheme, adding that such an initiative would make the Indian Army stronger.
During the felicitation programme, the chief minister handed over the appointment letter to the selected youths for Agniveer 2022-23.PHE minister L Susindro Meitei, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, 22 Sector Assam Rifles DIG brigadier Bikram Saini and army officers attended the programme among others.
