CM asks cops to nail drug suppliers

On the way to Sangai Ethnic Park, Moirang Khunou in Bishnupur district for an inspection visit in connection with the upcoming G20 events, chief minister N Biren on Thursday stopped briefly and commended a team of Bishnupur district police commandos who had just seized 101 soap cases containing heroin worth weighing 1.251 kg.
After taking stock of the situation, the chief minister instructed the police commandos to initiate follow-up actions in order to trace origin of the drug consignment, where it was destined and identify the prime smugglers.
According to police report, the commando unit led by ASIs Birendra Aimol and S Ojit on regular frisking and checking operation near Tera Urak Industrial Estate stopped a Jeep Compass (MN 01AG 7875) around 9 am Thursday.
On initial enquiry, the driver identified himself as Ngamkholet Lhungdim (32), son of Holkholun Lhungdim of Phoilen village, Chandel district and the passenger as his wife Lhingneikim Lhungdim (28).On search of vehicle, 101 soap cases containing suspected heroin were found concealed in the vehicle.
Consequently, the drugs were seized at the spot and the couple arrested.
A case has been registered at Bishnupur police station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, PRO IGAR (S) said that based on intelligence inputs provided by Keithelmanbi Battalion of IGAR (South) heroin weighing approximately 484 gm and worth Rs 2.5 crore in international market was recovered on Wednesday in a joint operation with Thoubal police commandos.
While informing two individuals were apprehended and 41 blue plastic soap cases containing suspected heroin recovered from their possession, the PRO said the duo and the recovered items have been handed over to Khongjom police station for necessary actions.
