Imphal, February 16 2023:
In spite of repeated appeals made to the Rural Development Department, the construction of the PMGSY road that traverse through Langli village remains incomplete causing extreme inconveniences to the people in the region, said the Langli Village Council/Authority, Kamjong district.
The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road from BRTF Road to Chahong Khullen via Langli village, about 8.97 kilometers, in Kamjong sub-division was supposed to be completed by March 2022, said the village authority in a statement released to the media today.
It said, the Langli Village Authority had earlier submitted representations to complete the project on two occasions to the Rural Development Minister.
However, even after repeated appeals, the Department remains mute and insensitive to the issue raised.
The people of the village and the region as a whole are reeling under immense suffering due to non-completion of the road, said the village authority.
The work order for construction of the road was issued by the Manipur State Rural Roads Development Agency (MSRRDA) in 2020 and according to it, the road was supposed to be completed within 18 months (by March 2022) .
Even though months have passed beyond the time-frame, the road remains unattended.
It seems the Government's Go to Hills Mission is just an "eyewash and a futile exercise," alleged the VA.
Due to the dilapidated condition of the road, the locals are facing utmost hardships in normal commuting and when accessing healthcare and emergency services, said the village authority.
While stating that the Article 21 of the Indian Constitution embraces not only physical existence of life but also the quality of life, the village authority appealed to the Rural Development Department and authorities concerned to take up necessary steps to complete the work at the earliest.
It also stressed that 'complete' lack of culverts, retaining walls, breast walls and bitumen have made vehicular movement on the road 'impossible' throughout the season.
If the authorities concerned fail to commence the construction work within one week, the local community will be compelled to take up extreme measures that are deemed appropriate, said the Langli Village Authority.
