Imphal, February 16 2023:
The Longmai Village Council and several civil bodies have served an ultimatum to the Government to station required number of staff at the Noney Primary Health Centre within 4 days ie by February 19 .
At present, only one doctor is posted at the PHC (Primary Health Centre) with very few nurses and no lab technicians.
Failure to send the required staff by the given time will force people to impose indefinite bandh along National Highway-37, they said.
The village council and the civil bodies adopted the ultimatum during a public convention held at Longmai Bazar Shed, Noney district Headquarters today.
Village Council, Longmai Area, RNCM Longmai Luangrian, RNLP Longmai Luangrian, Naga Women Association Longmai Area, Inpui Naga Women, Longmai Students Union and various local CSOs jointly organised the convention.
When every PHC in the State is basically entitled to a minimum of 8 to 9 doctors including one Ayush doctor and one dental surgeon, the Noney PHC has only one doctor with a very few nurses and no lab technician, they said.
Memorandum after memorandum have been submitted to the authorities concerned, however there is no positive response till today.
This failure from the side of the Government has deprived the very basic rights of the people and the Fundamental Rights entitled to every citizen, the civil bodies said.
Due to extreme shortages of staff, the only doctor and the available few staff are unable to manage 24x7 service, and OPD service has been affected, they said appealing to the Government and the Health Department to send the adequate and required staff at the PHC within 4 days time.
The public convention also took several resolutions to streamline and strengthen the healthcare system in Noney.
The convention demanded the Government to construct a District Hospital at the earliest and immediately appoint or send the required number of lab technicians and nurses at the PHC.
It also urged the Government to make ambulance service operational and utilize all available infrastructure of the PHC.
Meanwhile, failing to station the required number of doctors and other staff at the PHC within 4 days would force people to resort to imposing total bandh along NH-37 indefinitely.
Further, all ongoing National projects in the area like the railway construction work and NH expansion work will be banned, they warned.
