Imphal, June 09 2023:
In connection with the allegations levelled by Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) that Meitei army officers are invoked in different violent incidents during the ongoing violence in the state, police have registered an FIR against the students' body.
Imphal Police Station reg-istered the case against KSO for spreading fake news that the state security forces, par-ticularly the Manipur police commandos, and central forc-es are in support of the Meitei community.
A press release by KSO had accused Meetei/ Meitei officers in the army of being involved in various violent incidents during the ongoing communal tension.
The FIR stated that KSO, through its press release, at-tempted to demoralise the state police, the Indian army and BSF personnel.
This ac-tion by the student body has threatened the security of the state and also compromised the safety of the army officers and their family members, not to mention obstructing the duty of those working for the security of the country.
The FIR was registered after the Spear Corps of the Indian Army had made a post on its Twitter account, stating that by spreading false information and pulling a communal tag, KSO had attempted to cast as-persions on the integrity and loyalty of the defence forces.
The post, which was up-loaded on June 1, stated "All ranks of Indian Army are race, caste, creed and gen-der agnostic- fair to all & fear none...
The very officers being discredited spent sleepless nights, gone without food and water, rescued thousands and have provided refuge to people beyond religion, caste or creed in Manipur" .
The FIR also mentioned the false news spread by a Youtube channel, 'Pocket TV Network', which reportedly made false accusations against chief minister N Biren and Arambai Tenggol.
On May 29, the state gov-ernment had issued a warning that strict action would be taken up against those found spreading false news/infor-mation on social media.
Meanwhile, KSO is yet to make any statement in this regard.
