Imphal, June 09 2023:
Protest demonstrations were staged at different places today too under the banner 'No separate administration in Manipur' .
Protest demonstrations were staged at Wabagai Lamkhai, Lamjao, Langmeidong and Kakching Khunou Lamkhai under the aegis of the AMUCO.
Leaders and representatives of AMUCO, AMAWOVA and other CSOs spoke on the current situation of Manipur and related issues at the protest sites.
AMUCO president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang said that they have been working by giving special emphasis to the highly insecure situation prevailing at fringe areas.
Categorically saying that there will be unrest in Manipur as long as there are drug lords, drug cartels, Chin-Kuki immigrants from Myanmar and Kuki militants sponsored by drug lords, Nando Luwang underscored the urgent need to flush out these elements from the State.
Committed to the idea of a united Manipur, Meiteis were opposing the demand for separate territory raised by an indigenous community.
Now the Kukis who are not indigenes of the land are demanding separate administration.
If the Meiteis' remain silent to this demand of the non-indigenous people, it would have serious ramifications in the future, he said.
The present crisis was planned and orchestrated by drug lords and Chin-Kuki immigrants from Myanmar with a hidden agenda of creating a separate administrative unit for the Chin-Kuki people, Nando said.
The Meiteis' strategy of self-defence should focus on protecting Meitei villages located at peripheral areas, he said.
At the same time, Meiteis should never forget that all hill people are not enemies, he said.
The AMUCO president also acknowledged and appreciated the role of Meitei women, particularly Meira Paibis, in the present crisis who have been keeping a close vigil in their respective areas.
Meitei women who were not flinched at the 'shoot at sight' order should not be daunted by the news of combing operations, he added.
