189 gender-based crimes reported in 2022

A total of 189 cases of crime committed against women and children were reported in the state during the year 2022, as per the records maintained by Women Action for Development (WAD).
According to the report received from WAD, of the total 189 cases, five were of suspicious murder, nine murders, one murder after rape, 40 rape cases, 4 gang rapes, eight suicides, 28 assault, 40 missing, five life attempts, four trafficking, two molestations, 20 mob violence, two cheating, one suicide after rape, two intimidations, 10 forced detainment, four kidnappings, one abandonment and one case of sexual harassment.
On a monthly break up analysis, 15 cases took place in the month of January, 11 in February, 15 in March, 9 in April, 17 in May, 10 in June, 18 in July, 16 in August, 22 in September, 14 in October, 11 in November and 13 in December 2022 .
A total of 60 heinous crimes including rape, gang rape and suspected murder were reported during the said period.
During the last 10 years, 2016 reported the highest number of crimes committed against women and children with altogether 532 cases registered while 2014 and 2017 had the second and third highest cases with 314 and 307 respectively.
The year 2013, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 reported 128, 293, 246, 273, 190 and 148 cases respectively.
