Imphal, January 02 2023:
Stating that there are many selfclaimed instructors without valid certificates running Muay Thai training centres in the state thereby degrading the very essence and quality of the martial arts sport, United Muaythai Association-India (UMAI) has urged the authority concerned to look into the matter and help in producing quality Muay Thai players in the state.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday, UMAI joint secretary Ayekpam Sankar pointed out that many of the Muay Thai training centres in the state are being opened without any authorisation and as such instructors of these centres, who are not qualified, are providing coaching to the players in the most inappropriate manner.
"The instructors who do not possess any valid certificates are training the players by blending different martial arts form, thus, drifting away from its originality and diluting the essence and quality of the sport discipline", he said while adding that this has led to the sport becoming a business venture for those individuals but in the process spoiling the career of many promising players of Muay Thai who want to enter MMA and UFC.
He also appealed to the parents to check genuineness of the training centres and the coaches before sending their children to take up Muay Thai training.
