Imphal/Thoubal, January 02 2023:
All Manipur Muslim Organisations' Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC) and Social and Educational Welfare Organisation (SEWO) Manipur have demanded that authorities concerned to take action against Thokchom Kenedy of Khangabok who allegedly kidnapped a girl student studying in class VIII on December 15 and hand her back to her parents at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet at its office, Hatta, here, on Monday, AMMOCOC general secretary Wahidur Rehman cautioned that if authorities concerned do not trace the culprit and free the girl student then they will resort to intense forms of agitation with support from public.
The misdemeanour of Th Kenedy, who is from Khangabok Part 3 and is the founder of Elite Coaching Centre (ECC), of going into hiding with a minor girl after luring her out of her Hayellabuk residence is an attempt to dishonour the whole community of teachers, he asserted.
Wahidur informed that the family of the girl and the local club had a meeting with SP Thoubal, during which the officer assured of handing over the girl to her family within three days, but so far, no such thing has happened.
It will be not be wrong to say that Police Department's inability to translate its assurance into action and free the girl proves that the department is not functioning properly.
If the authority concerned does not take the required action as soon as possible, it will launch democratic form of agitation, he reiterated.
Meanwhile, in a separate release, SEWO, Manipur general secretary Abdul Ajish Kori asked whether the Police Department will take responsibility if any unfortunate incident happened to the girl due to its ability to trace the girl child and the kidnapper despite complaint lodged by the family of the girl well in time.
SEWO, Manipur also appealed to authority concerned to arrest Kenedy and his family members and punish them at the earliest in accordance to the law.
It also urged the chief minister to look into the matter and take action against the culprits under POCSO Act.
SEWO further requested meira paibi organisations, CSOs, clubs and student organisations to help in rescuing the girl and punishing the kidnapper as per law.
It also assured that it will actively support the resolutions passed by the family members, clubs and organisations regarding the matter.
On the other hand, Elite Coaching Centre (ECC), Khangabok Part I founder Khundrakpam Sarat has clarified that the tuition centre has no connection with Th Kenedy and it is very unfortunate that the name of the Centre has been wrongly dragged into the matter.
Addressing a press meet at Khangabok Mayai Leikai on Monday, Kh Sarat emphasised that he had founded the Centre in 2016, but it is very unfortunate that the JAC formed in connection with the kidnapping of the girl has claimed that Th Kenedy is the founder of ECC.
This has resulted in defamation of the tuition centre and uneasiness and discomfort amongst students studying at the Centre.
Hence, Khundrakpam Sarat requested the JAC not to include the name of ECC in future about the case and rescind their earlier statements.
If not, then they will have no option but to take legal action, he asserted.
Kh Sarat further claimed that Th Kenedy has his own coaching centre called 'Learn and Study' at Khangabok Lamdaibung Part III .
