Governor, CM, others greet on Imoinu Iratpa, Gaan Ngai

Governor La Ganesan, chief minister N Biren Singh, ministers Y Khemcand Singh, Awangbow Newmai, Nemcha Kipgen and Th Basanta Kumar Singh and various organisations extended their best and warm wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of 'Imoinu Iratpa' which falls on January 3 .
In his message, Governor La Ganesan said, "it is, indeed, gratifying to note that the people of Manipur, especially Manipuri brethren observe Ima Imoinu puja (Goddess of Wealth) to mark the return of the indigenous Meetei deity to the residence of her daughter-in-law Piyainu" .
Imoinu is celebrated at different places of the state with different flavours, the Governor added.
Sharing his observation, CM Biren said that 'Imoinu Iratpa' is celebrated on the 12th day of the Wakching month of Manipuri lunar calendar, with traditional gaiety and religious fervour.
On this day, seasonal fruits, vegetables and fish are offered and lights lit around the houses to evoke the blessings of Goddess Imoinu, believed to be the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity, the chief minister added.
"Fish, especially 'Sareng', being an important part of the offerings made to the Goddess, the state government has taken up initiatives to revive the production of 'Sareng' and to increase the production of other fish species, he said.
On the other hand, in separate releases, ministers Khemcand, Awangbow Newmai, Nemcha Kipgen and Th Basanta, Kabui Union Manipur secretary general Lanbon Kabui; Manipur People's Democratic Front secretary Sapam Samungou Singh, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Keisham Meghachandra, Ema Emoinu Erat Thougal-Lup, Sekta, All Manipur Students' Guardian Association, Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak and Eenat Yokhat Lup wished the people of Manipur a prosperous, healthy and peaceful year with the celebration of Imoinu festival.
Meanwhile, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Keisham Meghachandra, Manipur People's Democratic Front secretary Sapam Samungou, Federation of Civil Society Organisation, Manipur assistant secretary (IPR) and Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak secretary publicity N Debeswor Meetei have extended their warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur especially to Kabui community on the occasion of 'Gaan Ngai', which falls on January 4 .
In separate releases, Meghachandra, Samungou, Federation of Civil Society Organisation assistant secretary (IPR) and N Debeswor Meetei said that 'Gaan Ngai', an important festival of the Kabui community is celebrated to mark the end of the harvest season when the farmers have stored their food grains in their granaries and to mark the heralding of the New Year.
They then wished the people of the state peace, happiness and growth towards development with the celebration of the festival.
