Andro MLA lays foundation for several projects
No admission, tuition and hostel fees for girl students at Thambalnu Hr Sec School

Andro MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar laid the foundation stones for several projects in Andro assembly constituency on Monday.
He also visited ongoing project sites in his constituency and assessed their progress.
The MLA first visited Thambalnu Higher Secondary School where he laid the foundation of Thambalnu Women's Sports Complex, dedicated to the seven students, one teacher and one warden, who were killed in a road accident along Old Cachar road last month.
Later, the MLA laid foundation stones for a multipurpose hall at Moirang Purel Phura Makhong; multipurpose community hall at Moirangpurel Awang Leikai; new school buildings with smart class infrastructure for Moirangpurel Awang Leikai, Andro San-thei, Laikon Upper, Tumukhong, Nongpom Keithelmanbi and Nung-gaipokpi primary schools; and library room, arts & crafts lab & science lab for Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV).
Speaking on the occasion, Shyamkumar informed that the Thambalnu Sports Complex will have facility for free sports coaching for girls.
Some individuals are spreading misinformation on social media terming the name of the school as a jinx, which caused the ill-fated accident , the MLA said and appealed to all to stop such unfounded statements while asserting that there is no relation between the name of the school and the accident.
He also informed the gathering that the school will be converted into a residential school from the upcoming academic session, and there will be no admission, tuition and hostel fees for girl students.
The initiative has been taken up to promote education of girl students as an effort to clear the general mindset of giving priority of education to boys, he added.
He further said that the Moirangpurel multipurpose hall will have other facilities such as public guesthouse, gym hall, shopping complex and a bank.
Construction will be completed within five months, he said while stating that people of the area would soon see developmental changes due to the initiatives of the state and central governments.
Speaking about the importance of education, the MLA assured that Moirangpurel Awang Leikai Primary School will be developed as a quality school for grassroots education.
He also said that Shyamkumar Charitable Trust was formed in 2006 with the objective to assist students from poor families in their education.
A Telegrain group has been created for better communication between the trust members and supporters, he said while urging interested individuals to contact admins of the group for joining the same.
Members of the Telegram group are required to make a contribution of Rs 10 per month and there might be additional contribution of Re 1 or Rs 2 on special occasions.
The fund contributed by the members will be used in assisting students from poor families in their education and extending assistance to poor families requiring medical treatment and road accident victims.
Moreover, the Trust is planning to provide Rs 5 lakh cash assistance in case of deaths in accidents.
Later, he visited ongoing construction sites of Moirangpurel Model Residential School, Panam Higher Secondary School, Moirangpurel High School and family quarters of teaching staff for inspection.
