Maram-Peren road gets operational

The Maram Peren section of the National Highway 129A has been opened for traffic.
In a flag-off programme held on Saturday, NHID-CL Regional Office-Imphal executive director (P) DS Choudhary opened the Maram-Peren road section (a stretch from 40km to 56.84km) of the NH-129A for commercial operation.
NHIDCL PMU-Senapati general manager (P) Shankar Bhowmik, welcomed the gathering including the dignitaries present at the event.
In his address, DS Choudhary expressed elation at the completion of the Maram-Peren route much before the scheduled completion date by EPC contractor M/s Heera Ram Godara-M/S Dudi & company (JV).
He informed that Maram-Peren section of NH-129A is grouped into 5 packages (1A, IB, 2A, 2B & 3) with a total length of 109 km.
All the packages are in progress and are likely to be completed by March 2024, he added.
The executive director then expressed his gratitude to local people and the district administration under DC Mahesh Choudhary, police and forest departments for their continuous support.
He also thanked the EPC contractor, engineers and project monitoring unit of Senapati for their relentless effort in the execution of the project.
Mention may be made that the Maram-Peren road is the alternative route connecting Nagaland state from Manipur and the construction of this road will improve livelihoods of the people residing along the road.
Better road connectivity with Nagaland after completion of this 109 km Maram-Peren road project will lead to a quantum leap in economic development steered by increased transportation of agricultural and handicraft products, and growing local businesses like market shed, hotels, roadside food stalls, etc., for commuters as well as tourists.
Also, Maram-Peren road will provide shorter travel time' to Dimapur once the project is completed.
